Law of Original Intent

The Law of Original Intent states that when an author writes about a new condition, such as Autism, the descriptions, principles, and observations elaborated on from this author reign supreme, especially in the cases when the mechanism of pathology is not known or described.  Any change brought on by other individuals to these ideas or concepts are thus invalid because in so doing they conceptualize or create a new condition.

A good example of this occurred in the history of Asperger's Syndrome when Lorna Wing declared that Asperger's Syndrome was separate and distinct from a condition described by Leo Kanner.  A great article on the history of Asperger's Syndrome is found at this link.  This document suggests it would be wise to integrate Asperger's Syndrome into the Autism Spectrum Disorders.
